아이스크림 '메로나' 만든 김성택 전 빙그레 연구1실장 별세

 

아이스크림 '메로나'의 개발자 김성택 전 빙그레 연구1실장이 8월1일 급성 심근경색으로 별세하였습니다.

메로나는 1992년에 출시돼 약 30년간 사랑을 받아온 국민아이스크림입니다. 김성택 연구1실장은 경북 의성군 안계면에서 태어나 경북대 식품가공학과를 졸업한 뒤 1987년 빙그레에 들어가 입사 직후 다른 직원이 개발한 '더위사냥'의 후속 작업을 맡았습니다. 메로나가 출시된 것은 1992년 중반이며 고인은 당시 빙그레 식품연구소 연구1실(아이스크림 개발 담당) 대리로 메로나 개발 담당자였습니다. 메로나는 그해 매출액만 200억원으로 국내 빙과업계 신제품 최대 판매기록을 세웠습니다.

김성택 실장은 연구1실장을 지낸 뒤 2018년 빙그레를 퇴직했고, 2019년 전북 김제에 있는 ㈜서주 공장장을 맡아 다시 아이스크림을 만들던 중이었습니다. 유족은 "지병도 없이 건강한 편이었는데 아이스크림 생산이 늘어나는 하절기를 맞아서 업무량이 늘어나다 보니 피로가 쌓인 듯하다"고 말했습니다.

Merona was launched in mid-1992, and the deceased was a Merona Development Officer as an acting research lab at Binggrae Food Research Institute. Merona set a record for sales of 20 billion won in sales of new products in the domestic ice industry alone.

Kim Sung-taek retired from Binggrae in 2018 after serving as the research director, and was making ice cream again in 2019 as the head of the Seoju plant in Gimje, Jeonbuk. The bereaved family said, "I was healthy without a chronic disease, but I think I'm tired because of the increased workload due to the summer season when ice cream production is increasing."
